The European Commission has funded a Research Training Network (contract HPRN-CT-2000-00137) of ten institutions to study sources of gravitational waves in preparation for the upcoming generation of gravitational wave detectors. The project started in August 2000 and will run for three years. The project aims to use a combination of large scale numerical simulation techniques and approximation techniques. For details, please see the Project Description.
This timely and exciting Network links the following ten European institutions:
The Network will undertake theoretical investigations into sources for gravitational wave astronomy, in anticipation of the commissioning of large interferometric antennas early in the next millenium. The research methodology combines large scale computations with approximation techniques. The Network maintains very close collaborations to related astrophysics and parallel computational projects in the US, including a recently funded NSF project to develop an Astrophysical Simulation Collaboratory, based on the Cactus code, that will be used by the Network.
